Can I Work in Spain with this visa?

When you are self-employed, you can also work for a company located in Spain, as long as the percentage of this particular work doesn´t exceed 20% of the total amount of your professional activity.

You can dedicate a small portion of your work to clients or companies based in Spain, but it shouldn't dominate your
workload.

Example:

Let's say you're a freelance graphic designer and work a typical 40-hour week:

-
Total Work Hours: 40 hours per week.
-
20% Limit: You can spend up to 8 hours per week (20% of 40 hours) working for Spanish clients or companies.
-
Remaining 80%: The remaining 32 hours per week must be dedicated to clients or companies located outside of Spain.
So, you can accept projects from Spanish clients, but ensure they don't exceed 8 hours of your total professional activity each week.

If you're employed by a company located outside of Spain, you can still take advantage of the Digital Nomad Visa.

Example:

Imagine you are a software developer working full-time for a U.S.-based tech company. You’re employed, not self-employed, and you have a set salary. Your daily routine involves working remotely from your home office in Spain.
Here’s a typical scenario:
-
Total Work Hours: You work 40 hours per week for your U.S.-based company.
-
Full Remote Work: All 40 hours are dedicated to your employer based outside of Spain.
-
Occasional Local Projects: You don’t take on any additional work from Spanish companies, maintaining compliance with the visa regulations.
In this case, you enjoy the flexibility of living in Spain while maintaining your remote job abroad. If you wish to engage with local businesses, remember the 20% rule applies only to self-employed individuals.
